The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said:
Meaning:
“…There is no obligation on silver if less than 5 awsuq (equivalent to 930 litres)” (Reported Muslim)
Meaning:
“On silver, one-fourth of one-tenth is obligated…” (Reported Al-Bukhari)
Calculation example for zakat on silver
Weight of silver object x market value x 2.5%
Let say Ahmad keeps 1,000 grams of silver (exceeds nisab)
Zakat rate = 2.5%
* Current market price of silver harga semasa perak (example) = RM 0.62
Zakat = 1,000 grams x 0.62 x 2.5%
= 15.50
